Camille in Orlando – piano & voice
Camille is 7 years old and a student of Allison Stanley in our Orlando market. She’s been taking piano and voice lessons for a year.
What’s your favorite song or type of music to play?
Part of Your World because of the words and the movie, The Little Mermaid
Do you have any future plans for your music and if so, what?
What’s the best part of taking music lessons?

Who is your favorite popular musician/artist/band?
I also like Reflection from Mulan
What are your other hobbies/activities?
Ballet and jazz dancing and playing tennis.

Why did you choose this student for a spotlight?
I love teaching piano and voice, and teaching Camille allows me to do both.
What makes this student special?
Camille is genuinely interested in learning more about singing and playing piano. She applies herself both in and outside of the lesson and is quite intelligent. She never wants a lesson to end, and is a joy to teach.
Arthur, Diana & Laura in Washington, DC – piano
Arthur, Diana & Laura are siblings and students of Evan Meier. They have been taking piano lessons with LIYH for the last five years, starting with one sibling and then adding the others. Arthur is 10 years old, Diana is 9 years old and Laura is 7 years old.
Why did you start taking music lessons?
Arthur started taking piano lessons because his mom wanted him to. Diana liked the sound of the piano and Laura begged her mom to start lessons when she was 5 years old.
What instrument(s) do you play?
All three play piano, Diana is about to start violin at school and Arthur also plays
the clarinet.
What’s your favorite song or type of music to play?
“Down By the Bay” — Laura
“The Entertainer” – Diana
“Dance of the Violins”, by F-777 — Arthur
Do you have any future plans for your music and if so, what?
Arthur said, “To make good compositions that sound real, not by like a 10-year old.”
Diana said, “I really want to learn the saxophone.”
Laura said, “To learn the tuba in school.”
What’s the best part of taking music lessons?
Arthur enjoys the feeling of accomplishment after you’ve been working on a song and play it really well. Diana & Laura both enjoy playing the music.
Is there anything you don’t like about music lessons, if so, what?
All three agree that theory homework is their least favorite part of lessons.

What are your other hobbies/activities?
Laura enjoys swimming, drawing, cooking, and baking. Diana also enjoys all of those things in addition to ballet. Arthur’s hobbies are creating video games and coding.

Why did you choose LIYH for lessons?
Because the teacher comes to the house. Having three kids, it’s easy for me to have the lessons.

Nathan in Seattle – piano & guitar
Nathan is 11 years old and a student of Denise Miersma in our Seattle market. He’s been taking piano lessons for 6 years, the last year with Denise.
What’s your favorite song or type of music to play?
I don’t have one, but there is a song I’m beginning to learn that may change that.
Do you have any future plans for your music and if so, what?
I like playing piano just for fun.
What’s the best part of taking music lessons?

Is there anything you don’t like about music lessons, if so, what?
scales!
What are your other hobbies/activities?
I am a bookworm. I love to read and my favorite author is Rick Riordan. I enjoy reading fantasy books.

Why did you choose Nathan for a Spotlight, what makes him special?
I choose Nathan because I really enjoy teaching him! He is always prepared for his lesson and works hard on his music. he has a great sense of humor. We laugh a lot!! He always times me and lets me know if I go over our 30 minute lesson time. I think I now owe him over 30 minutes of extra lesson time!
Alejandro in Miami – piano
Alejandro is 13 years old and a student of Robert Sebastian in our Miami market.
What’s your favorite song or type of music to play?
It’s too difficult to pick just one.
What’s the best part of taking music lessons?
I love piano because of the sounds and moods I can create. It makes my body and mind feel connected.
Do you have any future plans for your music, and if so, what?
I see myself playing in the future, perhaps in a restaurant or with a small group.
What are your other hobbies/activities?
I love to play tennis and watch soccer.

Why did you choose Alejandro for a spotlight, what makes him special?
He can learn something with a few tries and is successful at communicating mood at such an early stage. He is full of potential!. He is a prodigy.
Eliza in Atlanta – piano
Eliza is 15 years old and a student of Amore Francis in our Atlanta market. She’s been taking piano lessons for about 10 years.
Why did you start taking music lessons?
I started taking music lessons to be my learn more about music and possible even compose my own works.
What instrument(s) do you play?
I play only piano. Just the piano alone is a lot.
What’s your favorite song or type of music to play?
My favorite piece to play has always been the current one I’m working on. It’s the Piano Sonatina op. 20 in C major by Friedrich Kuhlau.
Do you have any future plans for your music and if so, what?
Well not really job wise, however, I’m hoping to play into my later years. Perhaps when I’m 80, I can sit down and reflect on a song or piece.
What’s the best part of taking music lessons?
Definitely laughing, we have a lot of fun in the lesson and I wouldn’t imagine studying with anyone but Amore.
Is there anything you don’t like about music lessons, if so, what?
No not anything really, definitely makes me focus and don’t procrastinate as much.
Who is your favorite popular musician/artist/band?
I love Bastille, by far my favorite band.
What are your other hobbies/activities?
I horseback ride every since I was 7. Like piano, it takes a lot of commitment and determination.
We also asked Eliza’s mom ‘about LIYH.
Why did you choose LIYH for lessons?
Well, initially for the convenience. A lot of students at Mount Vernon were studying music and we wanted her to understand music, maybe play an instrument and have exposure.
What do you like best about your child’s music lessons and/or teacher?
We love Mr. Amore. He makes you understand the meaning of music, the way music affects your soul, the history of music and what people were thinking at the time. You get a deep appreciation of what you’re doing when you practice or look at a score. We love the philosophy of music and what it brings to our lives and we wouldn’t have that had Mr. Amore not been here. He’s a part of our lives and that adds unbelievable depth.
Ryan in Houston – piano
Ryan is 14 years old and a student of David Camarena in our Houston market. He’s been taking piano lessons with LIYH for four months.
What’s your favorite song or type of music to play?
I really enjoy, “Amazing Grace.” It is a familiar song that I have liked and recently learned to play on the piano.
Do you have any future plans for your music and if so, what?
I find gratification in the fact that playing can bring happiness to family and friends. I am considering using my knowledge of the piano to one day learn other
instruments as well.
What’s the best part of taking music lessons?
I like being able to impress my friends with the skills and knowledge I have gained through lessons.
Is there anything you don’t like about music lessons, if so, what?
SCALES (who doesn’t?)
Who is your favorite popular musician/artist/band?
I don’t listen to much music outside of lessons. I prefer to practice and create music myself.
What are your other hobbies/activities?
I am an avid video gamer and enjoy first-person shooter games.

Why did you choose David for a student spotlight, what makes him special?
Ryan is one of the hardest workers I’ve ever taught. He takes direction incredibly well, and we are able to talk about a lot of abstract concepts. Beyond this, he has a great sense of humor, super positive attitude, and I always look forward to ending one of my longer teaching days with his lesson!
Alexa in Denver – piano & guitar
Alexa is 7 years old and a student of Micala Pruitt in our Denver market. She’s been taking piano lessons with LIYH for four months.
Why did you start taking music lessons?
Because I like music and how it sounds.
What instrument(s) do you play?
I play piano and guitar.
What’s your favorite song or type of music to play?
My favorite song is Mr. Bluebird!
Do you have any future plans for your music and if so, what?
When I am in high school I think I might do piano and drums.
What’s the best part of taking music lessons?
I like when we learn new songs and when there are new notes.
Is there anything you don’t like about music lessons, if so, what?
I don’t like that much not learning and it’s hard and I get frustrated when my fingers don’t know what to do. I like the lessons a lot.
Who is your favorite popular musician/artist/band?
My favorite band is Need to Breathe.
What are your other hobbies/activities?
I like to swim, I like to play tennis, and I love to sing and cheerleading and gymnastics.

Why did you choose LIYH for lessons?
The convenience of having the lessons in our house, especially with three kids at home! It is helpful to have the teacher come to us.
What do you like best about your child’s music lessons and/or teacher?
I like everything! The convenience once again. I like that Alexa is able to practice on the same piano that she plays during her lessons. The familiar environment can help with learning. Also, Alexa really likes Micala which makes it so much easier! It is always hard when my kids don’t like their teacher or coach. Gelling with the teacher is so important!
