About Victor Sanchez
Victor Sanchez began playing drums in middle school, and went on to participate in drum line and marching band, compete and win several UIL competitions in marching band and in also concert band, where he focused primarily on hand drums. After graduating, his focus shifted to drum kit and piano, and he began working with dozens of local artists. Victor started playing at local open mics, and gradually creating networks that would lead to US tours, studio sessions, and live performances at the most prestigious venues in the Houston and Austin areas.
Victor currently focuses on studio sessions and live performances, which have included working with Grammy-winning engineer, Steve Christensen as well as at Discovery Green, The Heights Theatre, The Rockets, and The Dynamo. He also worked as the accompanying drummer for HCC's African Dance Ensemble for 3 years, and currently performs live on Djembe and Conga, playing music from West Africa, Haiti, Cuba, and Brazil.
Victor's teaching experience covers 6+ years, but he likes to consider his first teaching experience to the moment he became section leader in middle school, as his job was primarily to help others from that point. He officially began teaching as a drum instructor teaching students ranging from 4-65 years old. He loved it so much that he turned to teaching full time where he spend 3 years working in public schools, where he taught elementary, middle, and high school students and learned many effective strategies and disciplines to help students reach their goals.
As a goal oriented individual, Victor enjoys setting lesson plans to match each individual student, and he looks to create goals FIRST, so that the path to reach these goals is central through the student's journey. Whether a student's goal is to perform on a stage, complete a solo piece, or prepare for the next step in their music career, Victor tailors his lessons to approach the student's needs, and improve their musicianship. Victor's approach encourages intrinsic motivation that helps the student not only learn their instrument, but learn to really play the music.
