Trung Nguyen was born and raised in Houston, TX, and began his musical career at 10 years old on the trombone. He has been playing the trombone for 13 years and has learned to play guitar, bass, piano, and other brass instruments along the way. He has a passion for music expression and exploration. Learning how to express oneself through music is one of the most gratifying parts of the musical journey. Trung also has a love for music theory, performance, composition, and education.
Trung has been in the All-Region bands from 8th-12th grade. He attended and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance in 2020. While attending Sam Houston State he has performed at the Texas Music Educators Association twice with the Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. He has premiered multiple pieces with the Sam Houston Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble.
Trung has taken lessons from former principal trombonist of the Houston Symphony, John Mcrosskey, and the second chair trombonist in the Austin Symphony, Ben Osborne. He has also taken private jazz/improvisation lessons from Yamaha performing artist Aric Schneller.
He values quality work and strives to progress everyday, all of the small victories will lead to a massive payoff in the long run.
