It’s Never Too Late to Start Piano Lessons

The person who came up with the saying “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks” must not have watched America’s Got Talent when they have rescue/shelter dogs that do amazing things! Those aren’t puppies, but they definitely learned new things. A hundred times truer with adults-you are never too old to start piano lessons, guitar or even a brass instrument like trumpet!

Start Piano Lessons
It’s Never To Late

Here’s a few tips to get you started on the right path if you are toying with the idea of starting piano lessons.

1. Have the Instrument Readily Available

Many families seem to have a piano in their house  that is not getting much use. Great, think about playing it. If you don’t have the piano already but really have this desire to learn, purchase a keyboard or find a used piano. You would not believe how many great deals and even free pianos there are out there.
A keyboard doesn’t have to be expensive, either, and it’s portable. I know for me, when my electric piano is all set up and ready to go, and all I have to do is turn it on, I am much more likely to play it. When you have the instrument in your house and can start to doodle around on it, or as you walk by your are inspired to sit for a minute and at least try a song, your are on your way to being a piano player!

2. Get Some Music You Really Like

Music is the inspiration for much of life! It is the spice of our world. There is a genre you enjoy, there is a song that is stuck in your head, there is a radio station that you like best. Now, go to your local music store or a source such as Amazon and find the music! With much of the popular music of today, for example “Let it Go” from Frozen, you can find a book that is written for easy piano. This is a great place to start. I picked this up myself recently since so many students are really wanting to play this song. I thought I would be a step ahead. What Fun!! I have enjoyed learning and adding it to my repertoire as an adult. Many of the classic songs such as “Claire De Lune” can also be found in an easy piano version. These sound great and are super fun to play. You are one step closer!!

3. Take Lessons In Your Home

For me personally the greatest thing in having a teacher is the natural discipline that comes with it. When you know someone is showing up every week to hear what you’ve done, it makes you a little more motivated to set aside the time to practice. That is just how it goes. When you meet your personal trainer at the gym, you definitely work harder. When a piano teacher is there by your side, you will work harder.
The other practical part of a piano teacher is that they can show you what to do and answer any of your questions! They are the experts here, and they can give you the answers you are looking for, and help walk you through anything that might be difficult.
And as adults we might be worried about the time it takes when a Lessons In Your Home teacher comes…… easy as pie! It’s never too late to start. If you will follow just these three tips, there is a good chance you will be playing Moonlight Sonata in no time!!
