Teacher Profile: Ryan Penney

About Ryan Penney

A life-long musician, performer, and writer, Ryan Penney has been dedicated to sharing the art of music throughout Texas for over a decade. Beginning as the youngest member in a very musical family, Ryan was involved in theatrical and choral productions since he could remember. He then began learning to play both guitar and piano. After playing in bands and traveling with choral groups though high school, he then went on to receive his B.A. in Music from Houston Baptist University. After this, he directed music at the First Colony Homeschool Ensembles, while scoring student films, and teaching private lessons.

Ryan has a variety of musical skills and especially enjoys teaching others how to hear, conceptualize, and write their own music so each student can become a true music creator themselves! From rock guitar to jazz piano, film music to hip hop, Ryan loves to instill a passion for how music is made, how to perform it well, and finding ways for people to express themselves through melody.

Outside of the practice rooms, Ryan enjoys spending time playing pickleball, watching engineering videos on YouTube, playing with his dog Freya, and of course, being with friends. Ryan loves to be the music nerd wherever he goes, and is always sharing interesting facts about music production, artists, and soundtracks with others. This way, Ryan feels he is able to spark curiosity and self expression in everyone around him.
