    About Roy Calzadillas

Drawn to music from a young age, Roy Calzadillas has devoted his life to the expressive power of the cello and the transformative connection it fosters between performer, student, and audience. A passionate educator and performer, Roy teaches cello lessons throughout the Houston area and is dedicated to guiding students of all ages toward joyful, meaningful musicianship.

Roy began his cello journey at age 11 and studied under Professor Patrick Moore at the University of St. Thomas. He is currently continuing his studies in Music Education at Sam Houston State University under Dr. Daniel Saenz. Roy is trained in Suzuki teaching methods, and embraces the Suzuki philosophy that every child can learn and thrive with the right guidance, encouragement, and care.

Roy has performed in a wide variety of ensembles, from chamber groups and church services to full orchestras and pit productions. He finds equal fulfillment in connecting with audiences in concert halls and teaching one-on-one with students, believing that both are sacred spaces for growth, creativity, and self-expression.

As a teacher, Roy creates a warm, structured, and supportive learning environment that encourages curiosity, goal-setting, and confidence. His students are guided through a blend of technical foundations, musical interpretation, and creative exploration. He also prepares students for Region, UIL, and Solo & Ensemble competitions.

Beyond teaching, Roy dreams of bringing music education to underserved communities in Brazoria County, where he grew up. He hopes to one day open a music school in Lake Jackson to help others discover their own voice through music.
