About Promise Clutter

Promise Clutter has studied music for nearly two decades, beginning on saxophone before quickly picking up what would become her primary instrument: guitar. Over the years, she has performed in a wide range of ensembles, from jazz groups to punk bands and nearly every genre in between. She also spent 10 years running a record shop, deepening her connection to music and community.

Promise currently plays guitar in the Kansas City-based country band Good Fortune, and she’s also (very enthusiastically) trying to convince her friends to start a gardening-themed metal band.

Beyond performing, Promise owns Turnsol Books, a Kansas City bookstore that also houses an in-house press, Turnsol Editions, which publishes poetry, novels, translated works, visual art, and music scores. When she’s not immersed in music or books, she enjoys spending time with her two dogs and working in her garden. If you visit, don’t be surprised if she offers you a zucchini.
