    About Markus Cone

Over the last decade, multi-disciplinary musician Markus Cone has explored the relationship between music and visual culture. Markus received his Master of Fine Arts from the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts at the University of Houston where he focused on piano performance, music composition, visual culture, and sound engineering. Having studied both music and visual art, Markus incorporates visual concepts into integrative activity-based music education. In addition to teaching private music lessons, he also teaches art history, music history, graphic design, sound design, video editing, and media studies courses at Lone Star College.

Markus's research also integrates many other subjects and disciplines from many diverse geographical areas. Markus’s film score for the educational film about the repercussions of borders, "Invención de la Naturaleza", directed by Alejandro Sescosse was featured in the art exhibition, "Withstand: Latinx Art in Times of Conflict", at the Holocaust Museum Houston. Markus and Alejandro were also awarded a grant from the Austin Film Society for the film, "Tlaloc". The film premiered at Rice University Cinema on March 3, 2023. Borders and their repercussions were also addressed in the ballet he scored,"The Women of Manila" that premiered at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center.

His hobbies include, but are not limited to, martial arts, Japanese language, and hiking. Markus is also passionate about engaging with his local community by being involved with local community outreach programs like giving tours at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston or through voluntary work at cultural institutions.

Markus is passionate about sharing his integrative interdisciplinary instructional method to support and animate each student’s motivation for learning.
