About Marcus Wheat

Marcus Wheat was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and has been making music since childhood. He began playing piano in 1997 and trumpet in 2000, eventually studying music performance at the University of North Texas with John Holt.

Marcus has developed a diverse career as a performer, songwriter, producer, and educator. His passion for writing and producing music has taken him to musical projects in London, Los Angeles, Arizona, and Dallas, Texas, and he has had the opportunity to work with artists including 4batz, Lil Wayne, Coco Jones, Jeremih, Rebel Rae, and Anuel AA. As a performer, Marcus has played with various cover bands since 2010 and was the founder and musical director of his original band, The BoomBachs, which performed his original music from 2010 to 2022. The BoomBachs won international music competitions, recorded four albums, and performed at venues including The Echoplex in Los Angeles. Marcus has also had the opportunity to perform with Andrea Helms, known for her appearances on Sunday Best.

Marcus has a particular passion for helping students discover how music works and develop the skills to express themselves creatively. He began teaching music in 2014 and has worked with students of different ages and skill levels. His teaching approach combines strong musical fundamentals with creativity and encouragement, helping students build confidence while developing a genuine enjoyment of making music.

Marcus also has a deep love for church music and has played piano and organ for church services since 2014. Outside of music and teaching, he enjoys spending time with his two daughters, exercising, and playing video games. He is excited to share his love of music with his students and help them develop their own unique musical voice.
