    About Luke Scallan

Luke has spent nearly 20 years performing, teaching, and arranging in the Houston, TX, Austin, TX, and South Louisiana areas. An established trumpeter, arranger, and educator, Luke has known since middle school that he wanted to be a life -long musician. While in high school Luke performed with the 225 Big Band based in his hometown of Pasadena, TX and the Gulf Coast Sound DCA Drum and Bugle Corps, most often as a lead trumpet.

While attending LSU for his undergraduate studies, Luke was a founding member of the Tigerland Brass Quintet, who performed as an in-residence brass quintet for the Rafael Mendez Brass Institute in Denver, CO. A big fan of Louisiana culture, he has performed in several Mardi-Gras parades and considers South Louisiana as his home away from home. At LSU Luke studied trumpet under Brian Shaw, world famous baroque and jazz trumpeter, as well as Seth Orgel and Joe Skillen for his chamber skill studies. While at LSU Luke was able to perform with artists such as Wayne Bergeron and Wycliffe Gordon. World renowned jazz bassist Rufus Reid once said "Luke eats high notes for breakfast."

Luke attended the University of Texas at Austin for his Masters in Music Performance under the tutelage or Ray Sasaki. While at UT Luke was able to perform with current principal trumpet of the New York Philharmonic Chris Martin. After graduating from UT, Luke began touring with The Nightowls, which brought him to all ends of the United States, from Seattle, WA, to New York City to Durango, CO. His favorite memory of his time with The Nightowls was being invited to perform at Prince's Paisley Park in 2017, where he was able to perform for musicians and producers who worked with Prince himself. When not on tour, Luke taught trumpet, jazz, and music theory lessons in the Austin area, most notably in Georgetown, TX.

Luke's mission as a teacher is to foster a great connection with his students, teach them music that they listen to and enjoy, as well as introduce them to new music. Music is meant to be a joyous experience, and he always approaches lessons with this in mind.

Currently Luke resides in Houston, TX where he is freelancing and teaching brass and piano lessons. Luke is an avid sports fan and roots for the Houston Astros, Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints, and the Houston Rockets, in addition to LSU and UT. Luke also has an Information Technology background and build computers with his friends for fun!
