About James Pickens

James Pickens is a violinist from San Antonio, TX. His musical journey began as a child watching his father perform on stage every week. As a result, James' path into the arts was a natural evolution. Since childhood, James has studied various musical instruments but eventually landed on the violin. Currently, James is a student at the Moores School of Music, studying under Dr. Mann-Wen Lo. Previously, he also studied under the guidance of Beth Johnson of the San Antonio Philharmonic.

James has performed with many ensembles, including the Honors Performance Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, The Youth Orchestra of San Antonio, and The TMEA Region Orchestra. James is also a current member of the Moores Symphony Orchestra. In addition to playing music, James also enjoys drawing, running, and spending time in his hometown of San Antonio to catch up with family, friends, and dog, Norman, the dachshund.
