    About Hanna Kovalenko

Originally from Kremenchuk, Ukraine, Hanna Kovalenko began her musical journey at the age of seven, studying piano and later voice. She graduated from the Kremenchuk School of Music and continued her studies at the Kremenchuk Pedagogical College named after A.S. Makarenko, where she earned her teaching qualifications with a focus on piano, voice, and children’s choir direction. In addition to her expertise in piano and voice, Hanna also plays and teaches alto saxophone and recorder.

Hanna’s performance career is rich and varied. From 1999 to 2022, she was a soloist with the vocal studio Obriy and soprano in the quartet of the same name, which received top recognition at a national folk vocal competition. She has performed as a wedding musician, saxophonist in a local quartet, and vocalist, saxophonist, and songwriter with the band Neon Night. Hanna has also competed in vocal contests such as The Voice of Ukraine and Folk Star, and performed frequently at city events. Since moving to Houston, she has been active with the Ukrainian Music Theater in The Woodlands, where she serves as an actress, lead soprano, and conductor of the vocal group.

As a teacher, Hanna has worked with students of all ages, from young children to adults. She finds particular joy in guiding beginners, especially young children, as they develop their first musical skills. In Houston, she continues to teach piano, voice, alto saxophone, and recorder, preparing her students for public performances in concerts, senior homes, museums, and hospitals. Her teaching philosophy is rooted in encouragement, support, and connection—helping students feel confident, inspired, and motivated while nurturing a lifelong love of music.

Outside of music, Hanna enjoys exploring nutrition and fitness, studying programming, and learning new languages. She also coaches for a women’s fitness program at Curves, teaches English to children in the local Ukrainian community, creates content for her YouTube channel, and loves traveling, crocheting, and assisting her husband in his real estate business.
