Evelin Garay was born in Honduras. She began her musical studies when she was 12 years old at the National School of Music (Tegucigalpa, Honduras) with the renowned Honduran flutist Jessie Godoy. She continued her studies at the National Autonomous University of Honduras, where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in music under Msc. Yvan Bertet’s tutelage. She recently earned her Master’s degree in music at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville-Tennessee, under Dr. Lisa Wolynec's tutelage.
As a teacher, she has experience teaching flute, piano, music theory, music history, and solfege to students of all ages from different institutions, such as Cane Music Conservatory (Honduras), Preparatory Course of Music (National Autonomous University of Honduras), Soli Deo Gloria School of Music (Honduras), and Austin Peay State University.
Evelin has been part of several music groups in Honduras, such as The National Philharmonic Orchestra of Honduras, Tegucigalpa Symphony Orchestra, Francisco Morazan Orchestra, Symphony Pop Orchestra, Vivaldi Chamber Orchestra, and Bel Sono music group. She participated in different musical projects among them: the 4th, 5th, and 6th Central American Flute Festivals, YOA-Honduras Orchestra Camp, Youth Orchestra and Choir of Central America (JOCCA), and The Interuniversity Festival of Culture and Arts. Garay also received masterclasses with numerous internationally recognized flutists such as Tadeo Coelho (Brazil), Ulrich Biersack (Germany), Lucy Cartlidge (Scotland), Martha Councell-Vargas (USA), Marco Granados (Venezuela), and others.
Her teaching philosophy focuses on connecting with her students personally, first. To be good musicians and leaders, you must first be good people, starting with small details such as kindness, fellowship, and respect for others.
