    About Catherine McCoy

Music has been part of Catherine McCoy's life for her entire life. Her mom was her first music teacher, and she started learning the piano at five years old. Catherine's mom played the flute, and Catherine started to learn the flute at the age of 9. Music is such a big part of her life. She even does daily music time with her baby boy!

Catherine completed her undergraduate studies in Music Education where she pursued both the flute and the piano and graduated in 2016. She then went on to graduate school and received her Master of Music degree in Flute Performance. She was able to study with her very favorite teacher Dr. Tadeu Coelho at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. He has some awesome flute methods and warm up books that Catherine still loves to use in her own practice and with her students! While in graduate school, Catherine taught both the the flute and the piano at two music studios and loved spending time with students one on one.

After graduate school, Catherine started teaching elementary music in Virginia with Loudoun County Public Schools. Outside of school, Catherine taught music students in her home studio. She loved being able to share music in big group classroom settings, while continuing to foster students' love of music in private lessons.

At the start of 2023, Catherine moved with her family including her husband, baby boy, and two dogs to Texas and has been settling in ever since. She is so excited to start sharing her passion for music once again while working with Lessons in Your Home!
