    About Andrew Atwood

Andrew Atwood is a native Houstonian who has been teaching guitar in and around the city for more than twenty years. From the age of nine, he had an unquenchable thirst for lead guitar chops, which led him to study with a range of instructors, including Alan Darby, Dani Vargas, Rusty Cooley, Emil Werstler, and the late, great Ray Ernst. These serious players also instilled in him a passion for passing that knowledge on through teaching. Andrew helps his students reach their goals at a pace that feels comfortable to them and fits their schedule, so they get the most out of every lesson.

Alongside teaching, Andrew has played in several notable heavy metal bands, including Dark Empire and Houston stalwarts Helstar, and has fronted his own group, The Scourge. Along the way he has written, recorded, and toured internationally, performing in more than fifteen countries at festivals such as ProgPower USA, 70000 Tons of Metal, Alcatraz in Belgium, and Keep It True in Germany.

These days, Andrew spends his time practicing piano and playing gigs around town, from jazz to country. More often than not, though, you’ll find him fronting Three Hombres, a ZZ Top tribute. Music takes up much of his time, but Andrew is also an avid reader and a fan of the NBA and the Houston Rockets.
