Alex Karker has been playing the violin since 2011, when she first heard Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons on the radio. Since then, she has held a deep passion for music. Alex received her Bachelor of Science in Music from Ball State University, where she studied violin with Russian master Anna Vayman. She also studied with Shawn Head, Yu-Fang Chen, and Zoran Jakovcic, and performed under the baton of Douglas Droste in the Ball State Symphony Orchestra (BSSO). Along the way, Alex developed an interest in other instruments, and she now enjoys playing and teaching violin, viola, and piano.
After completing her academic studies, Alex began establishing herself as a professional musician and remained in the Midwest for several years. She toured with the BSSO in Europe, performing at the Rudolfinum (Dvořák Hall) in Prague and the Musikverein (The Golden Hall) in Vienna. She then moved to Lafayette, Indiana, where she worked as an orchestra assistant, taught private lessons, and performed with several local orchestras, including the Kokomo Symphony Orchestra, the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra, and the Danville Symphony Orchestra in Illinois.
Alex's teaching philosophy is that everyone, no matter who you are, where you're from, or what your background is, deserves access to music. It is part of all of us. Outside of music, Alex enjoys spending time with her two cats, Pocky and Pumpkin, as well as riding horses, drawing and painting, baking, and learning about the people around her.
