    About Ruslana Shumey

Enjoy your lessons with a friendly, professional, and highly qualified teacher. Ruslana Shumey was born and raised in Ukraine and started playing violin at the age of 4. Her older sister was already a teenager at that time and did not like the sound of violin, so 3 years later Ruslana stopped playing violin and started playing piano at the age of 7. Then attended a music school for 7 years and successfully completed it. After attending a College of Performing Arts for 4 years Ruslana graduated with a Bachelors in Music Theory and Piano. She is fluent in English, Ukrainian, and Russian languages.

Ruslana had the great fortune of studying under several excellent pianists including a pedagogy lineage that can be traced to Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych, author of the world’s famous “Carol of the Bells.” For over 30 years Ruslana has taught students of all ages in schools and also private lessons. Ruslana won a Grand Prix at Ukrainian Festival “Natalka” in her home town. She performed in both solo and collaborate recitals and has appeared in Public Television and Public Radio in many Former Soviet Union countries as well as in New York and Florida in the United States.

Ruslana Shumey has a deep passion for music and would like to share that with her students. Her pedagogical approach is based on patience, understanding, and a unique individualized program for every student.
