    About Patrick Hyland

Patrick Hyland is a musician and composer who specializes in the study, teaching, and performing of the guitar. Patrick started his musical journey at the age of 8 taking private piano lessons and adding private guitar lessons at the age of 13. Patrick continued his piano and guitar music education with various music teachers in the metro Philadelphia area as well as being formally trained in voice for a year at the age of 17. Throughout this time, Patrick performed in a variety of musical groups in various genres from classical, to rock, to jazz, and gospel as well as performing as a solo artist touring the Northeast area. Upon graduation from high school, Patrick decided to purse music at the collegiate level by enrolling at The University of Memphis, Memphis, TN, to study music with an emphasis in Jazz and Studio Performance and a concentration in Jazz Guitar.

While at university, Patrick performed in a variety of different jazz groups from small jazz ensembles to spending a year as the principal guitar player for the university's number one jazz big band, the Southern Comfort Jazz Orchestra. While with the Southern Comfort Jazz Orchestra, Patrick performed in various areas across the mid-south including at the 33rd Alcorn State University Jazz Festival and recorded two songs with the orchestra. Patrick also performed at the 2013 Memphis International Jazz Festival in one of the universities small jazz ensembles. While in university, Patrick spent time studying both music and mechanical engineering and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Music and a Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering in June of 2014.

Upon graduation in 2014, Patrick moved to Atlanta, GA where he currently resides with his wife. Patrick continues to study, perform, and teach music in the metro Atlanta area as well as works as a risk engineering consultant in the property insurance industry. When not working, Patrick enjoys spending time with his wife traveling and going on hikes, trail running through the Georgia mountains, and training in martial arts (kickboxing and Muay Thai). Patrick also likes working with his hands whether it be leather working, wood working, and/or metal working.

Patrick would describe his teaching style as laid back with structure for students to advance not just in their knowledge of the guitar but also their knowledge of music theory and music history. Patrick is a big believer and understands that not all his students are pursuing a career in music but knows that the influence of music in their lives will give his students discipline and the drive to purse their dreams. Patrick has a passion for teaching with his main goal of not only advancing his students musicianship in their instrument and in music theory, but guiding them to also see the joy that music can bring to their lives and a love for the art.
