About Jose Carmona-Almonte

Jose Almonte was born in Brooklyn, New York in June of 1997, but his family soon moved to Powder Springs, Georgia where he began studying percussion at the age of 12. By the time he graduated high school, Jose had already achieved great success as a musician, having been selected as an honor band and all-state band member several times. He was also selected to participate in the prestigious Governor's Honors Program as a percussionist.

In pursuit of his passion for music, Jose attended Columbus State University where he was awarded the prestigious Bo Bartlett scholarship for young artists. There, he received a Bachelor of the Arts in percussion performance under the tutelage of Dr. Paul Vaillancourt. During his time at Columbus State, Jose had the opportunity to perform with the Columbus State Wind Ensemble, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and the Columbus State Percussion Ensemble. He also participated in masterclasses with renowned percussionists such as Gene Koshinki and Tim Broscious.

After completing his studies, Jose moved to Atlanta, Georgia and currently serves as the percussion director at St. Pius X Catholic High School. In this role, he has helped to build a thriving percussion program and has led his students to several successful performances in regional competitions. In addition to his teaching work, Jose continues to perform as a percussionist with various ensembles and orchestras in the Atlanta area. He is a versatile musician and has experience playing a wide range of percussion instruments, including marimba, snare drum, timpani, and Drum set.

In addition to his skills, Jose is proficient in teaching piano and guitar, showcasing his versatility as a music educator. He holds a genuine passion for teaching that goes beyond technical instruction and is dedicated to instilling a deep appreciation for music in his students, helping them cultivate their musical identity, and fostering a lifelong love for music as a whole .Jose is deeply committed to his craft and is constantly seeking out new opportunities to learn and grow as a musician. He is dedicated to passing on his love of music to his students and hopes to inspire the next generation of musicians through his work as a teacher and performer.
