About James Lawlor

James is a dedicated guitarist and music educator with a strong background in both performance and instruction. While guitar is his primary instrument, he also brings valuable experience in teaching and playing bass guitar and piano. A recent graduate of Hampshire College (Spring 2025), James earned his degree with a concentration in music education, where he cultivated a deep commitment to helping students grow as musicians.

Passionate about demystifying music theory and exploring the structural elements of music, James approaches teaching through the stylistic lenses of Blues, Jazz, Pop, and Rock. His lessons are designed not only to help students play the songs they love, but also to broaden their musical tastes and understanding. By integrating foundational concepts of improvisation, composition, and theory into his instruction, James empowers students to become not just performers, but confident creators of music.
