Gene Isayev is a teacher and active musician with more than 30 years of experience. He started playing flute at the age of 9 and have not sopped ever since.
After graduating State College of Music in Grodno, Belarus, Gene was serving as flutist in the Mozhaiski Academy Military Orchestra in St.Petersburg Russia for 2 years. Immediately after returning home, he started his teaching career at the city’s Music School where he started his musical journey. At that time Gene started his studies at The State University of Arts in Minsk, Belarus and graduated with Master of Music Arts degree in flute performance and Jazz band conducting. Somewhere along the way he mastered saxophone and performed with local Jazz Band doubling on flute and baritone saxophone.
Back in Belarus, before Gene immigrated to US, he toured with groups of different styles of music all over the Europe, folk ensemble Muzyki playing Slavic folk instruments, chamber group Cantabile on flute, progressive rock band Side Off playing flute, saxophone and keyboards. After moving to US he continued his teaching and performing career in Savannah, GA, teaching privately and At Rody’s Music store, while gigging with cover and blues bands on flute, saxophone and keyboards, playing flute at wedding ceremonies and holiday concerts with Trio Expressions that he found.
After 10 years life brings Gene to Philadelphia and he joins Nelly Berman School of Music (2004) and The Baldwin School(2015), to teach Flute, Saxophone and Jazz Combo, while also he actively plays and records with different groups and solo artists. In 2021 his band Whiskey Logic became finalists in MGK’s 102.9 radio station HouseBand contest.
Gene still teaches and plays with his band in Philly/NYC area, even though he lives in Maryland now.
Fun facts, – Gene is crazy about soccer, and Manchester United’s biggest fan! His family’s bagels have been voted The Best Bagels of Savannah for 15 years!
