    About Drew Cummings

Drew Cummings has years of experience across a number of musical roles. Whether he has been a singer, songwriter, instrumentalist or recording engineer, he has gained a passion and appreciation for the entire process of making music. Although primarily a guitar instructor, Drew practices a wholistic approach to music that covers everything from technique and theory to experimentation. With a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Western Washington University, he enjoys integrating unique elements from outside the realm of music into his playing and teaching. For Drew, music is the ultimate form of communication and his favorite form of expression. Outside of work, Drew enjoys writing and recording his own music as well as collaborating with other artists.

Drew has been performing music locally for 22 years! Finding himself born into a musical family, he acquired an ear for music early by dabbling in piano, bass guitar, drums and violin. Upon learning guitar at age 12, he immersed himself in both traditional and modern forms of music and found himself songwriting, singing and playing a variety of instruments in many high school bands. During this time, Drew also took lessons from some of the Seattle area’s best local musicians. A firm believer in the transformative power of live music, he began playing talent shows, open mics, venues, charities and even busking at the famed Pike Place market from a young age to hone his performance skills. He has attended an array of camps, events and classes covering musical topics. As a graduate of University of Washington’s Audio Engineering program, Drew gained experience recording and collaborating on local records.

Drew’s knowledge is based in hands-on experience playing music and his lessons may include Instrumental technique development, equipment maintenance and usage, music theory, tuning and playing by ear, music history, experimentation in various genres, musical sensibilities and songwriting. He has a deep appreciation for his craft and loves to share it with others. In his lessons, students will be challenged with fun, engaging material covering everything from the mechanics of playing an instrument to building confidence in performing. Drew believes the best way to teach students is to let them discover their own sense of creativity and help them develop their innate talents!

Drew enjoys motivating students to be their best musical selves and encouraging them to find their own voice. Teaching has provided Drew with a renewed appreciation for the craft and he has found inspiration often comes to him through teaching his students. Drew works with groups or bands as well as individuals.
