Brent’s musical journey began at the age of 5 with piano lessons, and he added guitar to his study in his early teen years. Through various outlets, including his local church and middle school ensembles, Brent also pursued percussion and has been a part of many jazz and classically focused groups spanning between middle school and college.
In 2013, Brent began his teaching career after completing his music degree, and with his piano and guitar students, he has found that a well-rounded methodology mixed with patience and special attention to the learning style of each student has been successful in teaching melodic instruments. Brent works from standard examples and familiar, fun songs to keep lessons fresh and engaging. In teaching drum kit or other percussion instruments, Brent establishes a foundation of rudiments and exercises to build technical skill from the beginning, as well as working from examples that resonate well with each individual.
Following a personal philosophy of positive reinforcement, Brent is very focused on the unique journey each student takes in his or her study. He believes music lessons provide opportunities for self-empowerment, confidence, and expression. Brent’s biggest priority is helping students find themselves through music, and discover what role music can play in their lives, while also following his own passion for music by working with students.
