Aubrey Lisowski is a Northern Virginia based Violin and Viola teacher. Aubrey has extensive experience with students of all ages, from age 5 through adulthood. She studied under many amazing teachers throughout the years who have fostered her passion for music and teaching. Passing on this love of music and building personal relationships with her students is what Aubrey loves most about being a private strings instructor.
Since starting Violin lessons at age nine, music has been a passion for Aubrey, and the wonderful teachers she studied with led her to her own journey as an instructor. Throughout middle and high school, Aubrey studied with Mairi Cooper (Pennsylvania Teacher of the Year, 2015). Mairi was instrumental in advancing Aubrey's technique, preparing her for college, and demonstrating how important building rapport and personal relationships is for teachers. While in high school, Aubrey served as concert master for two years, won the Michael A. Torino String Orchestra Award twice, and performed in many honors orchestras.
Aubrey went on to study at Shenandoah Conservatory where she earned her Bachelors in Music Education. While at Shenandoah, she studied under Violin under Marc Ramirez and Akemi Takayama, Viola under Doris Lederer, and was coached in chamber music by Clyde Shaw. Aubrey also holds a Masters in Arts Management from George Mason University. Her career comprises work in Fairfax County Public Schools as a strings teacher, work as an arts administrator at Workhouse Arts Center, and many years as a private Violin and Viola teacher in the Northern Virginia area.
In her lessons, Aubrey uses a blend of techniques from her experience as both a private and public school teacher but the most important aspect is a real connection with each individual student. She believes that students learn best and are most successful when they work with teachers who truly care about students beyond what they can perform on their instrument. Once that connection is built, technique, skill building, and musicality will come much easier!
Aubrey has previously played with the NOVA Annandale Symphony where she also served as principal second violin and soloist. In her free time, Aubrey enjoys gigging as a free lance musician with her Violinist husband, spending time with her son, and reading voraciously.
