    About Alyssa Primeau

    Michigan native Alyssa Primeau is a Flute and Piccolo player in the United States Navy Band in Washington, DC and a music educator who teaches Flute, Piccolo, and Piano to students of all ages. Prior to joining the Navy Band, Alyssa was the Flute Fellow in the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She has also performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, amongst others.

    Most recently, Alyssa was the winner of the 2022 National Flute Association Orchestral Audition and Masterclass Competition. Previously, she was the winner of the 40th Annual James Pappoutsakis Memorial Flute Competition, as well as a co-winner of the 2019 Doriot Dwyer Flute Merit Award by the Boston Woodwind Society. Also in 2019, she had the honor of performing the Reinecke Flute Concerto with the Boston University Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Bramwell Tovey as a winner of the Boston University Soloists Competition. Other concerto performances include the Oakland Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra, and the Oakland University Wind Symphony.

    As a music educator, Alyssa enjoys working with students of many different ages and experiences. She was a workshop assistant for Linda Toote in the 2019 and 2021 Boston University Tanglewood Institute Flute Workshops. In addition to teaching Flute and Piano privately, she has experience in the classroom working with middle school band students, and has instructed many high school marching band woodwind sections.

    Alyssa earned her Masters degree in Flute Performance from Boston University, and her Bachelors degree in Instrumental Music Education and Flute Performance from Oakland University. Her primary teachers have included Linda Toote, Sharon Sparrow, and Jeffery Zook.

    Outside of playing and teaching music, Alyssa loves to spend time at home with her cat, Mia, and with family and friends. She's an amateur runner, and loves to walk around and explore the sites in DC!
