Meet Malik, a music-loving soul from Central Florida whose heart beats to the rhythm of melodies since his early years. His journey with music began in middle school in 2001, where he first picked up the French horn and different percussion instruments. Throughout his high school days, he immersed himself in a myriad of musical experiences, from All-County symphonic bands to jazz ensembles, taking as many opportunities as were available in his pursuit of musical excellence. He also pursues other interests that include recording drum videos for social media, jamming with musician friends for fun, or playing professional gigs with his band. He is also a big fan of going to live rock, jazz, and orchestral concerts.
After graduating high school in 2008, Malik's passion for music took him toward playing professionally around town. He received a spot in the Disney College Program from 2010 to 2012. Additionally, he became an integral part of Infinity Percussion, honing his skills in advanced marching percussion arts from years 2010-2012.
Malik's sought out mentorship from seasoned professionals at renowned venues such as Disney, Universal Studios, and various professionals throughout Central Florida, all while receiving opportunities to play along with these professionals at the same venues. Malik's musical repertoire extends across an array of instruments, showcasing his proficiency in drums, vocals, acting, bass guitar, keyboard, and marimba.
With his diverse experience, Malik has graced stages both big and small. From marching in Disney's popular Christmas parade to drumming for the Orlando Magic Drumline, he's left his mark on audiences far and wide. Whether he's laying down beats at Universal Studios or Disney's Hollywood Studios, each performance adds another layer to Malik's growth as a musician and entertainer.
Malik's passion doesn't end with performance—he's equally devoted to sharing his musical expertise with others. With over 10 years of teaching under his belt, he's mentored children and adult students of all ages and skill levels. He's taught with a number of school and organizations, including Kissimmee Middle School, John Young Elementary School, Lake Howell High School, Ignyte Performing Arts Learning Center, and Infinity Percussion. He has taught elementary through college grade students, as well as retired adults, all while infusing his lessons with fun games, challenges, and getting students to play full songs. His commitment to fostering strong connections with his students and their families ensures a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Malik's approach to teaching focusses on empowering his students to become independent musicians. He equips them with good resources like videos, student recordings, listening assignments, and exercises from popular method books, guiding them on their musical journey with encouragement to help build great confidence. Through his knack for simplifying complex concepts, Malik ensures that every student feels empowered and ready to conquer the music world, regardless of their skill level. As one of their biggest supporters, Malik cheers them on, celebrating their individual rhythm and musical achievements, and is always looking forward to helping each student complete their next big goal!
