    About Sam Ellis

Samuel Ellis is from Memphis, Tennessee, and has been passionate about music from a young age. He began playing guitar at age 7 before discovering the saxophone at age 12, which quickly became his primary instrument. His love for music led him to pursue Music Education at the University of Memphis, where he completed more than 200 credit hours in music and developed a strong foundation in both performance and teaching. Samuel earned his Bachelor's of Professional Studies with an emphasis in Music Education and Behavioral Analysis.

During his time at the University of Memphis, Samuel performed with concert bands, jazz ensembles, saxophone quartets, chamber groups, athletic bands, and a variety of other ensembles while completing multiple semesters of student teaching. He studied saxophone under Professor Allen Rippe, Dr. Jack Cooper, and Dr. Michael Shults, whose mentorship helped shape his musicianship and teaching philosophy.

As a professional musician, Samuel has performed throughout the Mid-South with the Marcus Malone Band, FreeWorld, Samuel and Davis, Back Pockets, Memfizz and many other live bands. These experiences have allowed him to perform a wide variety of musical styles, including jazz, rock, blues, funk, soul, pop, and contemporary music.

In addition to saxophone, Samuel is proficient on piano and guitar, giving him a well-rounded perspective as both a performer and educator. He has been teaching private music lessons since his teenage years and enjoys helping students of all ages build confidence, develop strong fundamentals, and discover a lifelong love of music. His teaching style is encouraging, engaging, and tailored to each student’s unique goals and learning style.

Outside of music, Samuel enjoys spending time with his wife and young daughter, exploring the outdoors. He believes music has the power to inspire confidence, creativity, and lifelong enjoyment, and he is excited to share that passion with every student he teaches.
