Richard "Andrew" Knote is a Washington, D.C. Area Strings Specialist and Piano teacher, and his primary performance area is Double Bass. As a native of Memphis, TN, Andrew began his musical journey with the double bass at the age of 10. Once he got the instrument in his hands and began playing, the joy and thrill of making music combined with nurturing teachers and supportive family introduced to many musical experiences and opportunities.
Andrew was exposed to chamber and large ensemble performances with the Memphis Youth Symphony program, participating in the beginning String Ensemble, String Sinfonia, String Orchestra, and Memphis Youth Symphony. While in High School, he also had the privilege to attend Tennessee's Governor's School for the Arts and perform in Spain with the Memphis Youth Symphony.
Andrew attended the University of Memphis and received a Bachelors of Music in Music Education. He studied Double Bass fundamentals and repertoire with Professor John Chiego, as well as the areas of Music Theory, History, Ear-Training, and more. During this time, Andrew also studied Piano as part of his Music Education degree, as well as gained proficiency in all Strings areas, which include Violin, Viola, and Cello in addition to Double Bass.
Post college, Andrew has served as Principal Bass in Starkville Symphony, Corinth Symphony, and Sinfonietta, and has played in the Bass section for Jackson Symphony, Delta Symphony, and Germantown Symphony. He also was a staple in church orchestras and the pits of musicals. As an educator, he started his teaching in the classroom setting, serving schools in Memphis as an Orchestra Director. He has also worked extensively with students one-on-one, and he teaches all ages.
In his spare time, Andrew likes to explore new recipes in the kitchen and try his hand at baking. He also loves spending time with his partner and their dog, Ronin.
