About Natalie Johnson

Natalie Johnson is a Jazz vocalist in the Orlando area. With 12 years of performance experience, Natalie is well versed in performance and vocal technique. She recently graduated from the Frost School of Music, University of Miami B.M in Studio Music. Her expertise primarily lies in Jazz, Contemporary, and Musical Theater, and she possesses extensive training in classical voice technique as well. Natalie has experience with multiple instruments including voice, piano, and alto saxophone.

Natalie has had the opportunity to perform in a variety of settings. Her vocal performance experience includes solo gigs, small jazz ensemble, big band leader, large and chamber choral ensemble, and musical theater. She has had the opportunity to perform with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in their holiday chorus. Natalie has had the privilege of performing alongside acclaimed jazz artists such as Luciana Souza, Peter Eldridge, and Cyrille Aimee.

Natalie has cultivated a passion for teaching working with students aged 8 to 16 across various disciplines. From directing youth musical theater productions to providing private coaching for voice and acting auditions, Natalie's pedagogical approach emphasizes fostering a love for music and ensuring student engagement. In her private lessons, she focuses on refining jazz, contemporary, and musical theater vocal techniques while nurturing performance skills.

Natalie’s first priority when teaching is to build on her students’ love of music and engage them in learning. She prioritizes the fundamentals including breathing technique, posture, music theory, and sight reading. Natalie believes that a basic background in music theory is necessary for a successful musician. Music is about sharing story and feelings with an audience and Natalie finds ways to help her students convey the story of the music to their audience.
