Miriam Chasteen is a native of Maumelle, Arkansas and has been a musician for most of her life. From an early age she learned to play piano and developed a strong love and connection with the flute which she went on to study in college. Mrs. Chasteen earned her Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance at the University of North Texas where she studied under Dr. Mary Karen Clardy and Professor James Scott. During her time in college, she performed in four different chamber groups, the Women’s Chorus, University Band, Concert band, Wind Ensemble, and Wind Orchestra where she collaborated with conductors Dr. Charlotte Botha, Dr. Nicholas Williams, Dr. Brett Penshorn, and Dr. Daniel Cook. While at UNT, Miriam was selected to perform in the Flute! Masterclass, attended a masterclass taught by Jim Walker, and attended lectures given by Susan Milan and Alessandra Woods. Mrs. Chasteen went on to perform in chamber ensembles and as a soloist at Florida State University where she received her Master's degree in Arts Administration.
Mrs. Chasteen's extensive background in music profoundly enriches her approach to teaching her students. Her lifelong dedication to music, beginning with her early piano lessons and deep connection with the flute, allows her to bring a wealth of practical experience and passion to her classroom. Having excelled in high school with numerous superior ratings and performances with prestigious ensembles, she understands the discipline and dedication required to achieve musical excellence. Her collegiate studies under renowned instructors and participation in diverse musical groups at the University of North Texas have equipped her with a broad perspective on music education. Her experiences performing complex works and her involvement in masterclasses provide her with a rich repertoire of techniques and insights that she eagerly shares with her students. Her recognition and awards highlight her commitment and skill, inspiring her students to pursue their musical goals with similar dedication and enthusiasm. Through her teaching, Mrs. Chasteen strives to instill not only technical proficiency but also a deep appreciation and love for music, drawing from her own journey and achievements to guide and motivate her students.
