Passionate about expression through the art of music, Matthew has been a percussionist of multiple capacities since 2010 and has been an educator since 2018. He received a BSBA in entrepreneurship and a BSBA in Business Management from Western Carolina University.
Matthew pursued excellence in the realm of marching percussion, where he played the snare drum and the tenor drums for numerous ensembles including the world-renowned drum corps Carolina Crown, Infinity Percussion, Western Carolina University, and Civitas Independent Percussion. With these ensembles, he has performed in the 2019 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, and Winter Guard International World Championships four times, and has performed in New York, St. Louis, Atlanta, Tampa, Charleston, Gardner Webb University, and multiple other locations while traveling. Matthew has also played drum set for various bands, churches, and events.
Matthew has taught multiple high school drumlines and has had numerous percussion students for both marching percussion and drum set. His students have ranged between 6 and 19 years of age. Currently, he teaches the Timber Creek High School marching band and is on staff with Infinity Percussion for their feeder program (and two-time world champions) Infinity 2.
Beyond performing and teaching percussion, Matthew is passionate about art analysis, hiking, nature, ministry, and his dog, aptly named Little Buddy. Matthew once said that “Excellence is a choice, not the product of an ideal circumstance.” He strives to live by this concept every day.
