Matthew A. Richards is a bassist, cellist, and teacher based in the Atlanta Area. Matthew began his musical journey on piano in elementary school and began playing the double bass at age 9. Since then, he has developed a passion for music. His passion has brought him to the field of education in the hopes that he can inspire passion in young students as well.
Matthew began studying Music Education at Kennesaw State University in 2011. He had access to some of the best music education. He took private lessons from Doug Sommer, Joe McFadden, and James Barket, and performed in Orchestras directed by Michael Alexander and Charles Laux. He completed his bachelor’s degree in 2016. Matthew was the orchestra director at a local middle school, where he built an orchestra program from the ground up.
Outside of music, Matthew is an avid reader, and a huge Anime fan. He loves learning and teaching music from his favorite movies and T.V. shows.
Matthew’s approach to teaching focuses on making the students feel safe to explore and express themselves through the music they like to listen to. He has the ability to break down concepts and ensure every student is able to build their musical confidence. Matthew believes in being a support system for every student’s musical journey!
