Beginning her musical studies at the age of 10 on piano, Katie Holland
has continued to grow with music ever since. She discovered the
bassoon at age 12 through her public school music program and began
studying with her long time mentor Jim Lotz. Over the years, she has
experimented with contemporary, jazz, bluegrass, and standard
repertoire for the bassoon as well as the oboe and saxophone. A
champion of new compositions, Katie commissioned the work “We are
Lost in the Milky Way’s Thumbprint of Glowing Embers” by Greg
Hoffman in 2003.
Katie received a Bachelor of Music degree in Instrumental Music
Education from Tennessee Tech University with a K-12 Instrumental
Music licensure and Master of Music from Stony Brook University in
Music Performance. She is currently a doctoral candidate at Stony Brook
University with the renowned Frank Morelli in the Doctor of Musical Arts
degree program. Prior to relocating to Atlanta, Katie served as the
Interim Principal Bassoonist with the Knoxville Symphony and the
Knoxville Opera.
Katie is an active freelancer and teacher throughout the Atlanta, New
