Julie is a well-traveled piano teacher who loves diversity in life. She grew up in Fort Worth and went to UT Austin to study Linguistics, Spanish and Music. She has taught piano in both Texas and North Carolina and loves relating to families. Her musical journey began at a very young age since her mom was a piano teacher and church musician. She played for little audiences at home and wherever she could get her hands on a piano since the beginner books! She is very grateful to have taught English as well in Latin America, Hawaii, California and Thailand for many years.
When Julie was in high school, she accompanied the West Side Story musical in its entirety, played for the choir concerts, and also gigged at a local Italian restaurant where waiters would serenade their tables. In college, she played for instrumentalists and weddings and taught at a nice little studio in Austin. Her mother is a local pianist in Fort Worth and taught her to love music like reading a good book.
For Julie, it’s important to give students plenty of discovery of songs they will love to play and even sing while they’re playing. Her methodology starts with the relationship of talking about life and music with each individual student. She is exuberant in relating to people and really brings that life-energy passion to each household that she has picked up from getting to travel and play music her whole life.
Being back in the States permanently now, Julie is very dedicated to her church choir and wants to help give back to the community where she was raised. She loves gardening, cooking, and volunteering for the elderly. She has also been active in a local high school as a math and science tutor recently. Her background includes teaching English as a Second Language and Literature, igniting both kids and adults to practice discussing topics of interest. She loves conversing with every walk of life and truly values getting to share the world of music with piano students.
