Jamie Halladay is a lifelong singer and musician with an enthusiastic love of performing and an eclectic appreciation for many different musical styles. As a private voice instructor, he works to share his knowledge of singing with his students while encouraging them to continue developing their own musical skills.
In the spring of 2010, Jamie Halladay received his Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Music Performance from Metropolitan State College of Denver, studying privately under Dr. Mee Ae Nam. While a voice student, he had the privilege of participating in a number of master classes, including one conducted by Dr. Mutsumi Moteki of the University of Colorado Music Department, where he was given the opportunity to enhance his skills in performing German art song. He also performed in a master class led by internationally renowned opera singer Simon Estes, who helped him cultivate his abilities as a soloist in sacred vocal music.
While studying at Metro State, Jamie developed his skills as a singer and musician through courses in vocal pedagogy and vocal diction, with a focus on German, French, Italian, and English.
As a student and choir member, Jamie performed as a soloist with both the Metropolitan State Men’s Choir and the Metropolitan State Chorale. He was also an understudy for the college’s production of W.A. Mozart’s Requiem. He was a regular cast member in many opera productions, most notably as “Messr. Gobineau” in The Medium by Gian-Carlo Menotti and as “The Captain of the Guard” in the premiere of The Lady or the Tiger by Leanna Kirchoff and Cherise Leiter.
In addition to his choral and operatic work, Jamie was a participant in the Metro Singers Association Vocal Arts Competition, where he received First Place in the College Art Song Division. He also received several music-based scholarships, including one awarded by the Denver Lyric Opera Guild.
Jamie has served as the Bass Staff Singer for Wellshire Presbyterian Church and as Cantor and Minister of Music for House for All Sinners and Saints Lutheran Church, both located in Denver, Colorado. In addition to leading worship music at House for All Sinners and Saints, he assembled and conducted a choir for their Ash Wednesday, All Saints’ Sunday, and Pentecost services. From 2009 to 2012, he was also the Bass Staff Singer and Section Leader for St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Denver.
Because of Jamie’s broad experience, he is not only trained in the Bel Canto (operatic) style of singing, but also in musical theater, pop, sacred and religious music, and West African vocal styles.
Jamie studied private piano for six years with Mark Shively and received additional instruction in jazz piano while at Metro State. He has been teaching piano since 2010. He also studied saxophone privately for six years and, while attending Overland High School, held the position of 2nd Chair Alto Saxophone in the Wind Ensemble.
As a private instructor of voice, piano, and saxophone, Jamie Halladay strives to bring out the best in each of his students by applying the knowledge and experience he has gained throughout his musical life.e as a musician and a performer.
