Jackson Arthur developed an early passion for music after growing up listening to big-band swing, and likes to joke that Glenn Miller is the soundtrack of his childhood. At age five, he began piano lessons on the family upright, and at age nine he added the trumpet, which has remained his primary focus. He was first exposed to the music of Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss in his senior year of high school, leading him to set his sights on becoming an orchestral trumpet player. He attended the Eastman School of Music, earning a B.M. in trumpet performance in 2013 and receiving the Sidney Mear Trumpet Prize, and later completed his M.M. at the University of Miami in 2016. While in college he studied orchestral trumpet and participated in his school's jazz program. His foundation in both classical and jazz music shapes the sound, flexibility, and musical maturity he brings to every setting.
Mr. Arthur is a multi-instrumentalist, playing trumpet, piano, guitar, banjo, trombone, accordion, and ukulele. He has performed with orchestras and brass ensembles throughout Upstate New York and Florida, including the Space Coast Symphony Orchestra and Miami Symphony. Since 2014, he has been an active member of the Brass Band of Central Florida, the premier British-style brass band in the state, serving in roles such as solo tenor horn and flugelhorn, and currently as principal solo cornet.
After completing his undergraduate studies, he began teaching trumpet, piano, and music theory to students from beginner to advanced, supporting all-county and all-state auditions, solo and ensemble performance, and college audition readiness. His students build more than technical proficiency—they develop musicianship, confidence, and skills for continued growth.
Mr. Arthur's teaching approach reflects the same blend of structure, creativity, and individuality that defines his own musical journey. He brings solid technique, creativity, and a supportive, goal-driven approach to help students grow with confidence. Mr. Arthur’s musicianship is shaped by mentorship from teachers including Tom Macklin (Brevard Symphony), James Thompson (Atlanta and Montreal Symphony Orchestras), and Craig Morris (Chicago Symphony Orchestra), as well as master-class experiences with Thomas Stevens, Ed Carroll, and Michael Sachs.
