Josie “Hazel” Behning, originally from the Dallas area and now residing in Fort Worth, is a versatile music educator with over twenty years of piano experience. Their journey began with piano, leading to teaching roles at various schools of music in Dallas-Fort Worth, where they specialized in classical French pianism.
Beyond piano, Hazel excels in French horn and trumpet, having achieved first chair status in French horn throughout high school and mastering both classical and jazz trumpet styles. They are also a seasoned composer with over fourteen years of experience across various genres and mediums.
Hazel's vocal talents span classical, musical theatre, and modern genres, (including yodeling) showcasing their versatility as a spinto soprano. They hold a deep commitment to music education and are currently studying Early Childhood Education at Dallas College, blending their passion for teaching with child development.
Outside of music and education, Hazel indulges in reading, writing, working with animals, visiting museums, and exploring interests in musical theatre, history, theology, politics, government, and crafting. A graduate of Mesquite High School, Hazel has a robust performance background, including orchestras, jazz bands, show choirs, and rock bands. They are highly skilled in sight-reading and have extensive experience performing in diverse musical settings.
Hazel Behning is dedicated to fostering lifelong musical skills in their students, including neurodivergent children and those with autism spectrum disorder, drawing on over a decade of experience in inclusive education. Their warm demeanor and engaging teaching style create a supportive environment where every student can thrive.
