Gabe Morehouse is a dedicated and versatile string instrumentalist and educator, sharing his passion for learning guitar, mandolin, banjo, and fiddle by ear with students of all levels. He's deeply immersed in the world of traditional American music, with a particular fondness for old-time fiddle and the energetic drive of bluegrass. Beyond the captivating sounds, he cherishes the strong sense of community and the rewarding pursuit of instrumental proficiency that these genres opportunize.
Gabe's musical journey started with brass in school, then moved to bass guitar for church gigs, and eventually guitar, where he explored rock and blues. After high school, he dove into Seattle's lively fiddle scene, picking up first mandolin, and then banjo and fiddle. He's a regular at local jams and festivals, and currently performs in three bands: Fairweather Foes, a trio in which he plays fiddle, Douglas and Fir, a progressive bluegrass band where he plays banjo, and Dysfunction Junction, a time-tested Seattle bluegrass outfit in which he plays mandolin. Gabe is also the reigning northwest flatpicking guitar champion, organized by the outlanders bluegrass social club.
In Gabe’s lessons, patience and teacher-student relationship is emphasized above all else. He believes music instruction should primarily foster the students' comfort and develop their love for listening and playing music. He believes that once the student can enjoy spending time with their instrument alone, their playing and understanding of music will blossom. He achieves this by means of positive reinforcement and lesson plan tailored to each student, treating the student at their maturity level and meeting them where they are, and by having an infectious love for listening to and playing all music himself.
