    About Daniel Rodriguez

Daniel Rodriguez is a Maryland-based Piano and Guitar instructor who is versed in a wide range of genres: from Classical and Jazz through contemporary styles. Over a period of more than 20 years, Daniel has cultivated his own technique and craft. He continues his personal learning journey related to his instruments of expertise and has performed in a variety of band and solo settings throughout his career. Daniel's first musical study as a child was on Piano, which gave him the fundamentals needed to expand his musicianship, branch into Guitar study and Music Education, and pursue a career in music.

As an undergraduate music student, Daniel studied Piano as his primary area, but was able to add a focus in Harpsichord under the supervision of Ms. Paula Maust. Exploring this Piano-family instrument gave him the opportunity to explore new techniques and join the Baroque Ensemble at his school. In addition to Classical music, Daniel studied Jazz at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County under the supervision of Mr. Matt Belzer and Mr. Tom Lagana. During these times, Daniel had the opportunity to immerse himself in the world of Jazz through performing in ensembles, workshops, and performances throughout the DMV area. Daniel has also been exposed to other musical styles such as pop, rock, blues, and more through his studies at UMBC.

Though performing has been a big part of Daniel’s musical journey, he decided to pivot his career focus in 2012 by becoming a private music teacher. He loves having the opportunity to share his passion for music by providing one-on-one Piano and Guitar lessons to students of all ages. He was greatly inspired and motivated by this transition to pursue a career in teaching music at public schools and in the classroom setting -- which is now his full-time position -- while also continuing his work with individual students.

In lessons, Daniel has a well-rounded approach to introducing and teaching Piano and Guitar to students of all ages and levels. He believes in taking a traditional approach through curriculums like Faber, Bastien, and Alfred, that emphasize music literacy, proper technique, and of course, fun! His persistence in teaching music theory, specifically, has benefitted his students tremendously, because they have a greater connection to all the practical aspects of their instrument and can develop a high level of playing independence. Daniel’s goal is to reach his students in a meaningful way by allowing them to conquer learning challenges in a supportive and encouraging environment, while also keeping them motivated in every session.
