Curtis Anderson is a singer and teacher based in the Seattle area. Curtis began his musical journey when he took his first piano lessons at the age of 4. Curtis began singing with Western Plains Children's Choir in second grade and has since been an active singer involved in choirs, operas, chamber ensembles, church music, and recitals. He brings a keen musicianship and a cheerful enthusiasm to any group he is in and is not afraid to try something at the risk of failure. Curtis studied voice, art song, and opera with Dr. Carlos Viera and Dr. Kenneth Bowles at Minot State University and with Dr. John Gates at Lawrence University. He has a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from Lawrence University (2025). While at Lawrence University, Curtis also studied piano as well as The Taubman Approach to Piano with Dr. Anna Reiser and Alexander Technique with Dr. Kathy Privatt. While Curtis is not a certified teacher of either Alexander Technique or Taubman Approach, he uses his experience with these two practices to develop technique that serves both the technical skills of music and the expressive potential, always with the goal that playing or singing should feel free and easy.
Curtis is also an amateur backpacker and is looking forward to hiking all over the Cascade and Olympic mountains. Curtis enjoys cooking, especially for others, and he has been described as “fearless in the kitchen”” by family and friends. He has pursued a minor passion for mycology by not only growing and foraging for his own gourmet mushrooms but he also premiered a set of art songs titled “Mushroom Songs” by North Dakota composer and brother, Erik Mychal Anderson.
