    About Christopher May

Chris May is a teaching and performing guitarist, singer-songwriter, and sound engineer. He fell in love with guitar at the age of 10 and was taught how to play the piano as a child by his father, who was a classically trained pianist and Minister. Originally from Arizona, Chris moved to Seattle in 2006 to pursue music. He plays acoustic guitar, electric guitar, ukulele and piano.

Chris received his Associate’s Degree in Audio engineering at Shoreline Community College, where he completed a diverse range of music-related courses including Music Theory, Composition, Song-writing, Production, Publishing and Copyright, among many others. His biggest musical influences include Jeff Buckley, Jimi Hendrix, Nick Drake and Bradley Noel. After moving to Seattle to pursue a career in music, Chris toured and played lead guitar for multiple bands with genres spanning rock, pop, jazz, folk, bluegrass and alternative. In 2012, he formed the band “Taxidermy Western” and toured the US and PNW. Currently, he is working on his 4th studio album as the lead singer and guitarist for the band “Kid or Kid” named after his appreciation of orchids.

Chris fell in love with sharing and teaching music as a young adult. His lessons are for everyone. Chris enjoys teaching children, teens, adults and older adults, and is equipped to teach people of all skill levels, including those who have never held a guitar to those who play professionally. He can help you perfect your chops or get past your music theory roadblock. He is continuing the tradition of father-child lessons by teaching ukulele to his daughter. Chris finds great joy in sharing his love for music, and believes that anyone can learn a new instrument. He strives to create personalized, individualized lessons for each student, understanding that everyone learns in different ways, while laying the foundation with core music building-blocks. He keeps lessons fun and engaging by using memory games, repetition and positive reinforcement for milestones and achievements. Chris would love to help you learn guitar, ukulele, piano, music theory, your favorite song, and help you grow as an aspiring artist.

When not in his music studio, Chris can be found hanging out with his family or in the kitchen making cookies for everyone.
