About Aran Coleman

Aran is a dedicated music educator based in the Washington, D.C. Metro Area (DMV) with a vast background in Voice, Piano, and Violin instruction and performance. Aran has a passion for helping students discover their musical potential and works with students of all ages. With experience across multiple genres and instruments, he brings a well-rounded, engaging approach to teaching that emphasizes technique, musical expression, and confidence-building.

Aran began studying Violin at the age of 10 through private lessons and school orchestra. Through Strings study, he established his early musical foundations and ensemble skills. Aran also started Piano study at the age of 11 through private lessons and playing in church, which further developed his music theory study and versatility across multiple instruments, especially Voice - Aran's primary area of study in college.

Aran studied Vocal Performance at James Madison University and trained under Professor David Newman and Dr. Jo-Anne van der Vat-Chromy. During his time at JMU, he had the opportunity to perform in the opera Così fan tutte, amongst many other university performances and productions. One stand-out ensemble experience was with the Contemporary Gospel Singers at JMU. Aran was both a member and served as Choir Director, gaining valuable leadership experience in addition to a meaningful musical experience.

Working with Music students is a sincere passion for Aran, and he finds great fulfillment in helping students of all ages grow into confident, expressive musicians. He believes this is achieved by building strong technical foundations from the start, while nurturing a genuine, lifelong love for music. For Piano students, Aran enjoys the Faber method as a stand-out resource, as well as Essential Elements for Strings. But in addition to having a sound approach in place, Aran also incorporates pop songs and fun materials for his students to create balance in their learning experience, as well as personalization. Consistent encouragement, no matter a student's age or level, is an equally important aspect of Aran's approach, and he strives to boost his students' confidence through their study.

Outside of teaching, Aran enjoys Music Production as a creative outlet and composes his work through recording and production software like Logic Pro X. He also loves spending quality time with family and friends and exploring new restaurants around the DC area as a self-proclaimed foodie.

Committed to continual growth as both an educator and musician, Aran values lifelong learning and seeks to foster that same spirit in his students.
