Anya Shambat is a Washington D.C. area Piano Instructor who has been actively sharing the joy of music with students since 1993 in the US! Originally from Russia, Anya brings exceptional knowledge of the instrument to her lessons and tailors her traditional approach to all her students.
Anya grew up with classical piano training as a major part of her life. She studied from a young age and went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Classical Music from the Gnessin's Professional School of Music in Moscow. She completed her degree in 1992 and then relocated to Northern VA.
In performance, Anya plays for events and accompanies as her current and primary outlets. She is versed in many genres and loves to incorporate a wide variety of repertoire in her playing. As an educator, she works with students of all ages -- from beginners as young as age 4 through adult students. One of her many talents as a teacher is bringing a high level of intuition into her teaching to shape her approach to her students' goals. At the same time, she also strives to build strong fundamentals and ensure they are learning the language of music along the way. With her students, she chooses from many different methods, but is a long-time fan of the Faber and Alfred methods for piano.
Anya has a joyful approach to music and hopes to pass this on to all her students. In her spare time, Anya enjoys the culinary arts, travel, and of course, attending concerts!
