Andrew Quinlan, a distinguished musician and teacher hailing from the city of Chicago, has spent his life immersed in the world of music and education. Born into a musical family, his journey as a percussionist began at age 6, guided by his Grandfather and Father who were both renowned Chicago professionals. He was raised on jazz, soul, funk, and groove based music. His early passion for drumming would lead him to continue a career in professional performances in orchestras, contemporary ensembles, and a very wide variety of drum set gigs.
Andrew first studied at VanderCook College of Music, where he pursued a Bachelor's degree in Music Education with a focus on percussion. Under the tutelage of Kevin Lepper, Bret Kuhn, James Yakas, David Herbert, and Simón Gomez, he honed his craft, laying the foundation for his future as a multifaceted musician. The bustling backdrop of Chicago only deepened his love for music, providing him with endless opportunities to refine his skills.
Armed with his bachelor's degree, Andrew’s path led him to the University of Colorado - Boulder, where he pursued a Master's degree in Percussion Performance. Studying with Michael Tetreault, Andrew began a rigorous “Mentor and Apprentice” style program that had him performing, learning, and growing constantly for a three year span in Boulder.
Andrew's career was enriched by his experiences with various orchestras. Having played with the Vancouver Symphony, Longmont Symphony, Boulder Symphony, and Evanston Symphony, his percussive talents have resonated with audiences far and wide.
Beyond the orchestral realm, Andrew found himself drawn to the dynamic energy of local bands in Chicago. Recently, he has recorded records with multiple Chicago bands. Since moving to Denver in June 2023, Andrew has shared the stage with numerous local Denver artists.
Andrew Quinlan is a versatile performer and teacher. Having 10+ years of experience playing and teaching drum set, band/orchestra, drumline, piano, and special needs he is always prepared and ready for the task. He is a vigorous music listener with inspirations from all over time and space. He is passionate about encouraging students to learn their way while providing advice to get them to their goals.
