With 15+ years of singing experience, Andrew has also participated in prestigious choirs and taken on leadership and conducting roles, showcasing his deep-rooted connection to choral music. He also has 14 years of experience playing piano, which allowed him to understand the fundamentals of music theory and how it applies to not only piano music, but music of all kinds. Andrew teaches voice, piano, guitar, and drums. His applied knowledge from his education and experience in these instruments has led him to performing live music in the genres of pop, rock, country, choral, Disney, and many more!
Andrew discovered his admiration for choir in 2014, having been selected to perform in the North Carolina Music Educator’s Association’s High School Honors Chorus in his freshman year. He would go on to be selected to sing in this Honors Chorus two more times, as well as being selected to sing in the Mars Hill Choral Festival all four years of high school. Andrew had the privilege to further broaden his choral experience by participating in more prestigious choirs such as All-County and All-State choirs. Andrew began his work as a composer by writing a short piece for an eight-voice choir, which would be performed live by his school’s Chamber Choir in 2017. The following year, he would compose another eight-voice piece, with a solo and added body percussion, also performed live by the school’s Chamber Choir. Throughout his time in high school choir, Andrew also developed leadership skills by being voted the Tenor section leader for every semester. Individuals would look to him to help with melody and harmony, rhythm, solfege, and starting notes.
Andrew is dedicated to ensuring that his students feel they can start playing their favorite songs from lesson one! He gives lessons using various teaching methods for all of the aforementioned instruments, his favorite methods including the Alfred, Bastien, Suzuki, Orff and Kodaly teaching methods. Andrew loves that he's able to give students of all ages an opportunity to unlock their potential and grow in their love of music! He also loves that he can help more experienced students grow in their prior knowledge. His biggest motivation is seeing the look of excitement and accomplishment that washes over a student's face, or what he calls the "aha!" moment, when they figure out a musical concept they struggled with before, and are able to exceed so much more and play all the music they've always wanted!
