Music has been a lifelong passion for Amy Mathews, beginning in early childhood when she was first drawn to the piano. After moving to Atlanta, she began piano lessons at age five and soon found herself performing at community events, including her church’s Christmas pageant. She picked up the violin at age eleven and later taught herself the ukulele at fifteen.
Amy remained deeply connected her music throughout her time at Emory University, where she played in a campus ministry band for three years. Her love for teaching music blossomed through roles as a violin instructor at an Atlanta-based nonprofit music school and as a piano teaching assistant for a local after-school program.
Now based in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, she integrates music into her work with elementary students and continues to grow as a performer. In 2023, she joined the Dallas Unity String Orchestra (DUSO) as a violinist and currently serves as the organization’s Secretary.
In addition to music, Amy considers herself a jack of all trades. She enjoys exploring a variety of crafts, especially sewing and crochet—ask her about the stuffed animals and hats she’s made! A self-proclaimed foodie and adventurous traveler, she has an arsenal of fun stories and is always eager to try something new. At the end of the day, you're likely to find her curled up with her cat, Goose, crafting while watching a movie, show, or listening to an audiobook.
With all of these passions in hand, she’s especially excited to return to private teaching and share her love of music in meaningful, creative ways with new students.
