Yingyin began her musical journey at the age of 5, when she began her piano study, and often played for her friends and family. She started studying flute at the age of 12 and quickly fell in love with playing in her middle school band ensemble. In high school, she was a member of the Youth Fellowship at the Kennedy Center and had regular opportunities to perform at the Millenium Stage. She also studied with the Principal flutist of NSO, Aaron Goldman for 2 years.
Yingyin earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Flute Performance at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with Professor Jonathan Keeble. In her time at the university, she has performed with the University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Wind Symphony, Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Wind Orchestra. She has also performed three solo recitals and has performed with a vocal recital and two conducting recitals.
Since completing music school and earning her Bachelor's Degree, Yingyin has been working with the Oakton High School marching band for 2 seasons. She grew her passion of teaching during these two seasons where she led flute sectionals during band camp and after school practices. She has also worked with the flute section of Irving Middle School monthly. In her experience of teaching, she learned to make connections with her students and found it incredibly fulfilling.
In her free time, Yingyin loves playing and taking walks with her dog, Eggnog. She also enjoys cross stitching and had made fridge magnets and coasters. As an ambition, she would love to learn how to bake bread and looks forward to taking on new projects.
