Martha Chang is a seasoned educator and passionate musician with over 30 years of experience in teaching and performance. She studied piano for more than a decade at the Josefina S. de la Cruz Conservatory, where she developed a strong foundation in classical technique and musical artistry. Her musical journey expanded throughout her academic years as she explored a variety of instruments, including woodwinds such as flute, bass clarinet, and oboe. She also gained experience with auxiliary percussion instruments and the xylophone, further enriching her understanding of rhythm and ensemble performance. In addition to her instrumental background, she was a dedicated vocalist with the Miami Choral Society for 10 years, where she deepened her appreciation for vocal music and choral harmony.
Her performance experience is both broad and diverse. As a pianist, she participated in annual recitals that highlighted her technical growth and expressive capabilities. During her decade with the Miami Choral Society, she performed in five to six concerts each year, gaining valuable experience in vocal ensemble work and live performance. She also performed weekly as a percussionist in the marching band, contributing to dynamic shows and school events. Seasonal concerts, including winter and end-of-year performances, gave her the opportunity to showcase her skills on various instruments such as the flute, bass clarinet, oboe, xylophone, and auxiliary percussion. These experiences have shaped her into a well-rounded performer with a deep appreciation for collaborative music-making.
In addition to her musical pursuits, Martha began her teaching career as a middle and high school mathematics teacher, a role she held for eight years. During that time, she also directed middle school choir, combining her love for music with her dedication to education. Her commitment to student success extended beyond the classroom through one-on-one tutoring in mathematics, where she helped students build confidence and improve their academic performance. Her diverse teaching background has allowed her to connect with learners across a wide range of ages and abilities, and has strengthened her ability to adapt her teaching style to meet individual needs.
Martha Chang’s teaching philosophy centers on a personalized approach that values each student’s unique strengths, challenges, and learning styles.
