    About Laura Shapiro

Laura Shapiro is a music producer and multi-instrumentalist. She grew up in the suburbs of Boston with a piano teacher as a father. Piano was her first love and after that songwriting, production and composition quickly followed along with guitar. Laura started playing piano at the age of 5 with her father as her primary teacher. In high school she founded an outreach initiative in Lowell, MA with her father where she taught piano and basic music theory at an after-school program for underprivileged children for four years. She majored in Communication as an undergrad and continued to practice and study music independently throughout her four years at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. After completing her undergraduate degree in 2017 she went on to receive her master's degree in Popular Music at the University of London, Goldsmiths in 2019.

While in London, Laura studied sound design and synthesis under Grammy-winning dance producer, Riton and received BBC Radio One play for multiple dance singles. In addition, she studied songwriting with Rosie Lowe and deepened her knowledge of Logic Pro X as her primary production platform. After living in London for two years she returned to the United States and put down roots in Seattle where she worked as a Program Coordinator for a local music non-profit serving young students in the Central District.

Laura remains an avid musician, studying jazz and rock guitar with an advanced teacher and believes studying music is a lifelong pursuit. She often participates in jam nights and now works for Sofar Sounds as a Marketing Lead in addition to teaching. She loves to work with children of all ages and believes that music education is in an incredible gift that deepens critical thinking skills, contributes to better academic performance in school and provides a format for creativity and self-expression. Being part of the Lessons in Your Home team is an exciting step in her journey to grow as a teacher and find community with other educators and music lovers. Musical inspirations from her childhood to now include everything from Debussy and Chopin to Steely Dan, Hall & Oates, Daft Punk and Tom Misch.
