    About Kyle Billmeyer

Kyle has been a musician since a young age and was learning piano, guitar, and clarinet all by the age of 13. He played in wind ensemble, marching band, and jazz band through high school and has been playing in rock bands since he was 23. He currently records and performs with two bands, King Lincoln and Rather Ordinary Dudes. His experience with many types of music styles and performances gives him a wealth of knowledge that he is eager to share with his students. His specialty is rock guitar, but he enjoys all types of music and learning new songs with his students.

Kyle began learning music around 10 years old when he was shown how to read a few notes on his grandparents’ grand piano at a holiday gathering. His parents got him his own keyboard soon after, and he quickly taught himself to play and read music with both hands. He started off with Christmas songs and old lessons books borrowed from his grandparents’ piano bench. Before long he was picking out sheet music to learn songs him and his family loved. Kyle picked up clarinet when he joined the school band in 6th grade, which led him to playing in many parades and ensemble competitions throughout the Pacific Northwest. Not long after starting clarinet, a friend showed him how to play a chord on a guitar and he fell in love instantly. He started learning as many classic rock songs as he could and was teaching himself to record song covers in his bedroom a few years later. His aptitude for the instrument was eventually noticed by other musicians in the area which led him to be recruited by the bands he plays in today.

Kyle was a self-taught musician through his youth and took formal music lessons after graduating high school. Since then, he has found a few amazing guitar instructors that have taught him about music theory, improvisation, ear training, songwriting, recording, and performance. Having such inspiring and knowledgeable teachers has made him a huge advocate for lessons. And his experience with self-learning gives him a great understanding of the common pitfalls to avoid for starting musicians.

As a music teacher, Kyle believes in developing his students’ passions and interests. He loves answering questions and helping people reach their musical goals, whatever they may be. He believes anyone can learn an instrument and is always looking for new ways to help and motivate his students.
